What the tools are

Real Sizer provides free, browser-based measuring instruments. They run on your device using your browser's own capabilities, so what they produce depends on your browser, your operating system, your display and — above all — on a calibration you perform yourself by matching an outline to a physical object. Results vary with all of those. A reading carries the error band printed beside it in the readout, and that band bounds two named terms: the reference object's permitted dimensional spread and an allowance for how accurately a person can line up two edges. It does not bound a bent card, a card held at an angle, a curved panel, or a display swapped for another one that reports the same resolution. The methodology page sets all of that out in detail, and it is part of understanding what you are being told.

What a reading is not for

This is a general-purpose utility for everyday measuring — a parcel, a picture frame, a part you are about to order, checking whether something will fit. It is not a metrology instrument and it is not built for anything where being wrong carries material consequences. Do not rely on it for engineering tolerances, medical or clinical purposes, legal or evidentiary measurement, or any decision about money or safety. Where a dimension matters, measure it with a physical instrument. If a reading here disagrees with a physical ruler, the physical ruler is right.

No account, so nothing to terminate

There is no sign-up, no login and no profile. You are not a user of a service in the ordinary sense; you are someone loading a page that computes something. There is nothing for us to suspend or close, and nothing for you to cancel.

Nothing is held here, so nothing can be restored

Your calibration lives in your own browser's storage on your own device, as the privacy policy describes. There is no copy on any server of ours, no account it is attached to, and no support route that could produce one — for anybody, including you and including us. If it is lost, the remedy is to calibrate again, which takes about twenty seconds. That is the same property that keeps it out of everyone else's reach, and it is stated here as a term of use rather than left to be discovered.

Provided as it is

The site and its tools are provided as they are and as available. To the fullest extent permitted by law, all implied terms and conditions of every kind are excluded, including any implied term as to satisfactory quality, merchantability, accuracy or fitness for a particular purpose, and no assurance is given that the site will be available, that any reading will be correct for your purpose, or that any page will behave identically on every browser or device. What is claimed about accuracy is claimed on the page itself, in the readout, as a band with a stated derivation — and nothing on this site should be read as an assurance beyond it.

Use it at your own risk

You are responsible for the object you calibrate against, for holding it flat and square against the glass, for choosing the edge you match, and for deciding whether a reading is good enough for what you are about to do with it. Re-calibrate whenever your display changes, whenever you move to another screen, and whenever the page asks — and, because one failure is invisible to any browser, also when you have moved to a different monitor of the same resolution and nothing has asked you to.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the site operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages arising from use of the site, including anything mis-measured, mis-ordered, mis-cut or mis-fitted as a result of a reading taken here. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Content, data and sources

The text, data files, code and generated graphics on this site are the operator's own work. The dimensional figures are read out of published standards, which remain the property of their publishers; they are cited by clause and quoted in short extracts for one purpose, which is to show where a number came from and let a reader check it. Anything the tools compute for you is yours to use, for anything you like.

Acceptable use

Do not attempt to disrupt the site, scrape it abusively, present it as your own, or use it in violation of applicable law.

Changes

The tools and these terms may change over time. Continued use after a change means acceptance of the updated terms; the date at the top of this page tells you when it last moved.
